If this title is true that words are more than just words what could this mean? The Word of God is powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword. God spoke and created the universe and everything in it. The Word existed in the beginning and was with God and is God and the Word created everything there is. The Word then became human and lived among us. Jesus is the Word of God. Jesus says that we are defiled by our thought life. The words we speak and believe have the power to bless or curse – they have the potential of bringing healing or death to us and others. The negative thoughts and words we sometimes find ourselves thinking or speaking do not come from God. We have an enemy that prowls around and all he wants to do is to kill, steal and destroy us and he will constantly barrage us with lies about who we are. Pretty soon we start believing these lies and we end up on a path that is so far from where God wants us to be and then we wonder how we got there. We end up in bondage to Satan and his schemes when we believe these lies and come into agreement with them. Satan wants us to hate ourselves, to feel shame, condemnation and unworthiness. The truth is God created each one of us unique, one-of-a-kind and special in His eyes. We need to be careful what words we are in agreement with. If we believe words that are negative and self harming we need to immediately realize these are not coming from the Kingdom of God but from the Kingdom of Darkness. We need to stop, renounce these thoughts and start speaking out of our mouth the truth of how God sees us . . . because this is the truth! God’s word and truth brings us abundant life in Jesus! Let’s take a look at some scripture that will be helpful in times where we need to conquer the lies with God’s empowering words of truth: • I will bless those that persecute me; bless and not curse Romans 12:14 • I am the salt of the earth and the light of the world Matthew 5:13-14 • I have been chosen and appointed by God to bear fruit John 15:16 • I am God’s workmanship, created for good works Ephesians 2:10 • I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me Philippians 4:13 We need to pray and ask God to forgive us for believing these lies or speaking these lies over others and we need to receive God’s forgiveness. We need to ask the Lord to break any word curses over us or any word curses we have spoken over others. We need to ask the Lord to help us to reflect on and speak only the words that are pleasing to Him.
