Learn How To Walk According To The Spirit In This Easy To Understand Article

By: Peter K. Martell

Have You Always Wanted To Walk By The Spirit Or Wondered What It Means?

The Bible is actually very clear and precise about what walking according to spirit is.

That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit
(Romans 8:4-5 KJV)

The key to understanding walking according to the Spirit is, the meaning of the word "mind' in the above verse. The New Testament was originally written in Greek. The English is a translation of the original Greek. If we go back to the original language, we can get a better understanding of what the scriptures are saying.

The Greek word translated "mind" in the above verse is the word "phroneo," and it means: "to exercise the mind or to think." Isn't that interesting? Plugging this definition into our scripture we get to walk after the Spirit is to exercise the mind in, or think the things of the Spirit.

What Are The Things Of The Spirit?

Now, the question is what are the things of the Spirit? And how can we know them? Jesus gave an answer to this question when he taught:

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
(John 6:63 KJV)

"The words that I speak unto you they are spirit, and they are life." Isn't that great! The Bible is a very great book indeed! It truly teaches us very great things from God. Now, the words of the spirit are spirit. So, to think the thoughts of the Spirit is to think the words of the Spirit right?
Where Can We Find The Words Of The Spirit?

In the Bible, the entire Bible contains words inspired by the Holy Spirit. The whole thing is Spirit inspired.

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
(2 Peter 1:21 KJV)

Conclusion

So, now you know what it means to walk by the Spirit. To walk by the Spirit is to think the thoughts of the Spirit. The thoughts of the Spirit are the words of the Bible, words inspired by the Holy Spirit.
